The Shining is a horror classic directed by Stanley Kubrick, released in 1980 and based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King. The film follows Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson), a struggling writer and recovering alcoholic, who moves with his wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) and son Danny (Danny Lloyd) to the isolated Overlook Hotel in the Colorado Rockies. In order to make ends meet, Jack has taken a job as the winter caretaker of the Overlook, and he hopes that the peace and quiet of the hotel will help him focus on his writing. However, the Overlook is haunted, and Jack soon finds himself plagued by supernatural visions and horrific hauntings. Danny, meanwhile, has psychic abilities known as "the shining," which allow him to see the terrifying truth of the hotel. Together, Jack and Danny must battle their demons, both real and imagined, in order to survive the winter.

With the help of her servants, Grace must protect her children from these entities by uncovering the secrets of the house before the spirits can put her children in harm's way. The film is a psychological horror story that explores themes of faith, loyalty, and fear.

Beetlejuice is a 1988 dark comedy fantasy film directed by Tim Burton. The film tells the story of Adam and Barbara, a recently deceased couple who are trying to haunt the new inhabitants of their former home. They enlist the help of Betelgeuse, a mischievous and outrageous ghost, in order to scare away the new owners. However, their plan goes awry when Betelgeuse gets out of control and creates chaos in the town. In the end, Adam and Barbara are able to break the spell and save their home. The film stars Michael Keaton as Betelgeuse, Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis as Adam and Barbara, and Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, a young goth girl who helps Adam and Barbara in their mission. The film was a commercial success, grossing over $73 million in the United States and was followed by a 1989 animated TV series.
