What We Do in the Shadows is a 2014 mockumentary horror comedy directed by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi. The film follows four vampires living in Wellington, New Zealand, who have been roommates for hundreds of years. Viago (Waititi) is a 79-year-old Gentleman Vampire, Vladislav (Clement) is an 862-year-old Vlad the Impaler-type, Deacon (Jonathan Brugh) is a 183-year-old hipster, and Petyr (Ben Fransham) is an 8000-year-old Ancient. The film follows their daily lives, from their struggles to fit in with modern society to their attempts to hunt for human blood. The film also follows their interactions with other supernatural creatures, such as a werewolf pack and a group of necromancers. The vampires must also deal with their rivalry with a group of zombie flatmates, who keep stealing things from them. Ultimately, the film is a humorous and heartwarming story of friendship, acceptance, and finding a place in today's world.
